Spinner is a one-hour performance in which I spin my own collected hair into thread using an old wooden spindle. What is usually considered a sign of loss, becomes a material for making, transforming hair into something that can become textile.
Spinning carries a long history of women’s labour and storytelling; through this repetitive act, I create my own mythology and a quiet connection with my female ancestors.
Taking place at The Swapshop, a second-hand clothing exchange store where I work, the performance also brings this act of transformation into a space built around the circulation, reuse and afterlife of textiles and textiel fibers.
