Nature, Memory & the Hyrcanian Forest
Turn deadstock textiles, vintage clothing and natural materials into deep blue cyanotype prints. As part of Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week, this hands-on workshop connects fashion, nature and the landscapes of northern Iran, led by Azerbaijani artist Gunay rzazadeh and Iranian artist and OASE team member Yas Gholami. We’ll create, share Persian tea and explore how nature can inspire the way we make and consume.
What to expect
Experiment with leaves, flowers and other natural elements to create your own cyanotype designs on fabric. Along the way, A and B will share stories and knowledge about the nature they grew up with, including Iran’s Hyrcanian forests, a unique landscape rich in biodiversity but increasingly under pressure from climate change and environmental degradation. For them, sharing this knowledge through art is a way to raise awareness and create a form of resistance: a way of celebrating, remembering and protecting landscapes that are changing before their eyes. We’ll also drink traditional teas from the northern regions of Iran, creating space for conversation and cultural exchange.
About cyanotype
Cyanotype is an early photographic printing technique that creates striking blue-and-white images using UV light. By placing natural or found objects onto light-sensitive material, you can create unique prints that capture their shapes, textures and details.
What to bring
Bring a vintage or forgotten T-shirt or other garment made from 100% or at least 90% cotton, the higher the cotton content, the better. You’re also welcome to bring a few leaves, flowers or other natural materials to experiment with; everything else is provided.
